o join La Barrica Club (or the
Cask Club) is to become a member of a small, select
group which fully appreciates Rioja Alavesa wine and
its traditions and culture. Members can acquire (by
reservation) the contents of a 225 litre Bordeaux Cask
of red wine produced from the grapes grown in the Bodega’s
vineyards in Villabuena, one of the best wine-making
regions in Rioja Alavesa.
The wine is aged in the bodega itself
until it is time for bottling. Subsequently, the bottles
remain in the bodega's racks for a minimum of 6 months
before being labelled and delivered to each member,
an event that generally occurs at the end of the 4th
year after harvest. Only a limited number of 100 casks
from the best harvests (qualified as at least Good by
the Designation of Origin Control Board) are aged for
the members of the Cask Club.
Bodegas La Marquesa creates a special
label for the Club, enabling each member to personalise,
if they so wish, their own bottles with their name or
other inscription. The rear Rioja Designation label
certifies the wine as a crianza. To ensure that the
members are given the opportunity to identify with the
Bodega as much as possible, its doors are open to them
at any time and they are invited to follow the aging
process of their wine in situ and to use the Bodega's
facilities for their business meetings or lunches.
