The Garnacha Tinta (Red Garnacha) grape is the most widespread variety throughout the Mediterranean countries. In La Rioja it's grown mainly in the lower part of the Ebro Valley (Rioja Baja – Lower Rioja). In the higher areas such as the Alavese Rioja, it's in the minority and needs years with a benign climate to give of its best quality.
